Yahoo! Finance Quotes Shawn Cole on the Rise of Co-CEOs
Cowen Partners Executive Search President and Co-Founder Shawn Cole was recently quoted by Yahoo! Finance discussing the growing trend of co-CEOs at major companies like Comcast, Oracle, and Spotify.
“The biggest pitfall for co-CEOs is the power struggle,” said Cole. “It’s very much like a marriage — it takes a lot of communication to make it work.”
But just as in any partnership, outside opportunities can test the bond. “Co-CEOs are often drawn to other sole CEO roles,” Cole noted, adding that many of these dual appointments appear to be short-term fixes for succession challenges rather than lasting leadership models. “These just don’t seem like long-term solutions,” he said.
