Discover Where You’re Most Likely to Thrive

Explore your personality, behavior, values, and workplace preferences to better understand the environments, cultures, and organizations that fit you best.

DISCOVER WHAT DRIVES YOU AND WHERE YOU’RE MOST LIKELY TO THRIVE

Self-awareness is essential to professional success, but understanding yourself is only half of the equation. A strong employment relationship also depends on whether your personality, behavior, values, communication style, and goals align with the organization around you.

What Is the EECAT Personality and Workplace Compatibility Assessment?

EECAT—the Employee-Employer Compatibility Assessment Tool—is designed to evaluate more than personality alone. Rather than assessing an individual in isolation, EECAT examines both sides of the employment relationship: whether an employee is right for an organization and whether the organization is right for the employee.

EECAT evaluates compatibility across four core pillars:

      Personality. Behavior. Company Objectives. Culture.

Additional dimensions—including Character, Morals, Communication, and Reasoning—provide a more complete picture of how an individual and organization are likely to interact, make decisions, communicate, and perform together in the real world.

No personality, behavioral style, or workplace culture is inherently “good” or “bad.” The purpose of the assessment is to identify alignment, potential incompatibilities, and the conditions under which both parties are most likely to succeed.

EECAT can help individuals better understand their motivations, working style, communication preferences, values, and ideal professional environment. Employers can use the framework to support hiring, team development, leadership assessment, succession planning, and organizational alignment.

EECAT was pioneered by Dr. Annie Cole, EdD, whose background spans educational neuroscience, behavioral research, randomized controlled trials, data strategy, and organizational consulting.

The Cole Institute has partnered with Cowen Partners Executive Search to make this introductory EECAT personality and workplace compatibility assessment available at no cost.

What Are Some Benefits of EECAT Assessments?

Personality and behavioral assessments have long helped employers better understand individuals. EECAT goes further by evaluating the compatibility between the employee and the employer across factors such as personality, behavior, communication, culture, values, company objectives, and ways of working. Rather than asking whether someone is simply a “good” or “bad” candidate, EECAT helps identify where alignment exists, where friction may develop, and what conditions are most likely to support long-term performance, satisfaction, and retention.

      Self-Awareness

You cannot build on your strengths or address your blind spots without first seeing them clearly. EECAT gives you an objective read on how you operate, what motivates you, and how you tend to respond when conditions get difficult. That clarity is the foundation for everything that follows.

      Teamwork

When team members understand one another’s working styles, values, and communication preferences, cohesion follows. EECAT gives teams a shared language for how they complement one another and where friction is likely to arise, shifting the conversation from personality to process.

      Leadership

Effective leaders read people well and adapt. EECAT gives leaders a clearer picture of their own tendencies alongside those of their teams, sharpening delegation, coaching, and the ability to build rapport across different styles.

      Communication

Most workplace breakdowns trace back to a communication mismatch rather than a competence gap. Understanding how each person prefers to give and receive information makes those mismatches visible and fixable.

      Conflict Resolution

Knowing where values, objectives, and working styles diverge lets you anticipate friction instead of reacting to it. When issues do surface, EECAT helps teams identify the root cause and address it directly.

      Fit and Direction

Self-knowledge only takes you so far if the environment around you works against it. EECAT identifies the cultures, leadership styles, and organizational conditions where your strengths compound rather than stall. For candidates, that turns a broad job search into a targeted one. For employers, it clarifies who will thrive inside the organization as it actually operates.

How EECAT Compares to a Traditional DISC Assessment

DISC is a strong starting point. It maps behavioral tendencies into four recognizable styles and gives you a vocabulary for how you communicate, decide, and respond under pressure. That vocabulary is genuinely useful, and it is why DISC remains one of the most widely used assessments in business.

What DISC measures is one person, on their own. It tells you who you are. It does not tell you where you belong.

EECAT was built to answer the second question. It covers the same behavioral ground, then adds the dimensions that determine whether a working relationship holds over time: the objectives an organization is driving toward, the culture people live in day to day, and the character, values, communication, and reasoning patterns that shape how both sides show up.

The result is a compatibility picture rather than a personality label. You learn how you operate and the conditions where that way of operating is most likely to succeed.

If you have taken a DISC assessment before, EECAT will feel familiar and go considerably further.

      The Research Behind EECAT

EECAT was pioneered by Dr. Annie Cole, EdD, who brings more than 15 years of work across educational and research settings and a career built on the rigorous study of human outcomes.

Dr. Cole has supported first-generation and at-risk students through the Shepard Academic Resource Center, managed a National Institutes of Health study on neuropsychological predictors of academic success, and co-led a $3.7 million EIR-funded randomized controlled trial on individualized instruction.

As CEO and Principal Research Consultant of Praxia Insights, she partners with nonprofits, social service organizations, and small and midsize businesses to translate real-world data into actionable business intelligence. She previously served as Vice President of Evaluation and Data Strategy for Modern Classrooms Project, a global EdTech organization reaching teachers worldwide.

Dr. Cole holds a BS in Psychology, an MA in Higher Education, and an EdD in Educational Neuroscience, a credential set that places her at the intersection of human behavior, organizational science, and research rigor.

      Compatibility and DISC Assessment FAQs

Discover more about what assessments are, how they work, and how they can be game-changing for both hiring leaders and the candidates they’re interviewing in the FAQs below.

      What is an EECAT Assessment?

An EECAT assessment is a compatibility assessment designed to measure the fit between an individual and an employer across multiple dimensions, including personality, behavior, communication, culture, values, reasoning, character, and company objectives. Unlike traditional assessments that evaluate the person in isolation, EECAT looks at both sides of the employment relationship to identify areas of alignment, potential friction, and the conditions most likely to support long-term success.

      What does EECAT Stand For?

EECAT stands for Employee-Employer Compatibility Assessment Tool.

The name reflects its core purpose: assessing compatibility between an individual and an organization, rather than evaluating only the employee or candidate in isolation.

How Can I Use the EECAT?

You can use EECAT results to better understand where an individual and an organization are naturally aligned, where differences may create friction, and what conditions are most likely to support a successful working relationship. The information can help inform hiring decisions, onboarding, team integration, communication, management style, role design, and long-term retention.

EECAT is not intended to label someone as a good or bad employee, or a company as a good or bad employer. Instead, it provides a framework for discussing compatibility across areas such as personality, behavior, communication, values, culture, reasoning, character, and company objectives so both sides can make more informed decisions about fit.

What is the Difference Between the DISC and the EECAT?

DISC is primarily a behavioral assessment. It helps describe how an individual tends to communicate, respond to others, approach tasks, and behave in a work environment.

EECAT, or the Employee-Employer Compatibility Assessment Tool, is broader. It is designed to evaluate the compatibility between an individual and an organization across factors such as personality, behavior, communication, values, culture, reasoning, character, and company objectives.

In simple terms: DISC helps explain the person. EECAT helps explain the fit between the person and the employer.

Can I Have One Style at Work and Another at Home?

Yes. You can have a different DiSC style at home or work — and under extreme stress, in foreign environments, and when interacting with strangers. Despite shifts or differences in distinct circumstances, however, your DiSC personality will likely be relatively the same, with the same predominant attributes holding steady while different nuances dial up or down based on the environment.

      How does the EECAT work?

EECAT assesses both the individual and the organization across a defined set of compatibility dimensions, including personality, behavior, communication, values, culture, reasoning, character, and company objectives. The results are then compared to identify areas of alignment, potential friction, and the working conditions most likely to support a successful long-term relationship.

      What does the EECAT measure?

EECAT measures compatibility across eight core dimensions: personality, behavior, communication, culture, values, character, reasoning, and company objectives. Together, these dimensions provide a broader view of how well an individual and an organization may align, where differences may exist, and what factors could influence long-term fit and success.
