When Uber announced that VP of strategic finance Balaji Krishnamurthy would replace CFO Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah, Cole interpreted the move as a deliberate choice for stability. “The move reads as continuity and investor-messaging discipline,” Cole explained. “I wouldn’t expect material changes to the business plan or operating model on the back of this move as it looks like a steady-hand CFO choice for a ‘cash flow plus optionality’ phase, where you protect the core while selectively funding longer-dated initiatives.”
The timing is particularly notable given Uber’s aggressive push into autonomous vehicles and robotaxi technology, an area where Krishnamurthy has been a longtime advocate. With the company generating approximately $10 billion in free cash flow in 2025 and planning to expand AV offerings to 15 cities this year, Cole’s analysis suggests the insider promotion allows Uber to maintain financial discipline while pursuing transformational growth opportunities.
