As AI companies race for capital and computing power, Cole noted that the CFO role itself is being redefined:
“While many companies are going back to basics with CPA-style CFOs, the AI industry remains in a bull market where investment-banking-trained finance leaders are prized for their ability to finance infrastructure at scale.”
Cole’s perspective reflects a larger leadership trend: as AI infrastructure costs surge, finance chiefs are being selected not just to manage books, but to structure capital and drive growth strategies at the forefront of AI competition.
